The Hills Are Alive!!!

Tonight we're going to see a free concert at the top of the Provo Town Square parking structure. It's part of the Rooftop Concert Series being sponsored by all kinds of cool companies and people, including the fantastic singer/blogger/tambourine player/couch with wheels driver cjane! Anyway, it's at 8 pm, and Mike and I are taking the "well children"  with us. By "well children", I mean the ones who are not strepped out. That's a fun story for another time.

Anyway, I've always loved hymns. I come from an EXTREMELY musical family, my mother being a concert pianist/music teacher/singer/master of all things music who also has a degree in Music. She's amazing. My dad plays the drums and sings, my brother and my sisters and I all play multiple instruments and sing, so if you want to imagine the Von Trapp family growing up in Vegas singing in church all the time and for groups of people, go ahead. You wouldn't be that far off.

So when I found out about the Lower Lights performing tonight, I knew we had to go.  It's on the top of a parking structure, no seats, just twinkly lights, a crude stage "area" and people sitting on blankets and lawn chairs enjoying music.  This is perfect for us. We need something to do that has everything to do with music and nothing to do with having to be fancy. Not with a 6 month old baby and kids of many other ages.  Now, I don't like any one type of music only, and the Lower Lights are just some really musical folks who live around here that take the hymns I've grown up on and make them into amazing folksy kinds of songs. They're fantastic. You need to buy their album on iTunes immediately. Except if you're my sisters or my brother or my mom, don't get one for Dad for his birthday, I already got it.  Woot.

I could make music my life if I had the real gumption to do it, but I feel like I express my love of it through images, and that's what I'll be doing tonight. Taking pictures and listening and imagining all the things that come to mind when I hear the hymns I grew up on.

Here's an example of what we'll see tonight.

Jealous?

If you wanna buy it go HERE, and even if you don't wanna buy it just yet, you can go to that link and listen to the rest of the album, and then you'll probably want to buy it then. I promise.

Okay so I am absolutely going to buy EVERY one of their songs, but why is it that they don't have the song "Lower Lights Burning" available to purchase?????? Am I not finding it? I can only imagine the spirit that was felt at that venue last night. I would have LOVED it!

Oh, and on another note -- I love the word verification for today..."cougaiz" As in, yes, I am one of the "cougaiz" from the BYU.

It's not on there?! They sung it last night, I wonder if it's one of the 2 songs you get with the download. I think it's cheaper to download the entire album, instead of the song by song deal. The venue was FANTASTIC, do you remember the parking structure for the Provo Town Square? Behind Los Hermanos? So awesome. It was like 65 degrees, tiny breeze, stars, the audience was facing the Y mountain, they let little kids go up and dance in front of the stage, it was amazing. Oh and lanterns hanging in the sky, big round paper lanterns, and only like 300 people in the audience. Oh and we got to sing along! So good.

Oh and about the word verification, you sick cougaiz, yeah whoo! Only you would get that, and only I would laugh with you. Well, you, me and Eliza! ;)

My word verification is "quidn" as in "i've been typing too much, so I'm quidn now"

You painted the picture and I felt myself there...that would have been amazing, paper lanterns and all. My kids were there dancing - I could see it in my head, especially Madison. She would waste no time - case in point, last weekend we went to a Greek Festival. Dancers were on the stage doing their thing and she was right in front of the stage trying to copy them. She rocks! :D

I used to park in that garage every day for work many moons ago. Oh Los Hermanos how I miss you and your sinfully delicious chips and salsa with a fried ice-cream for dessert.

So to get the two bonus tracks do I download the album from their website or from itunes?? I truly MUST HAVE that song too ;]

I am one sick cougaiz, and I am laughing with you and Liza, but this cougaiz is quidn before I say something "inepro" YEAH WHOO!

So glad I could paint the picture for you! Also, the fried ice cream from Los Hermanos, their chips and salsa and the root beer is DEADLY. I love it so.

Also, I think you have to download it from their site. Doesn't it say somewhere on their site that you get the download plus 2 more tracks? I thought I saw that.

Also, you sick cougaiz who is quidn before you say something inepro, I'm done talking now because "sumsconi" happen to us if I don't.
